If you are looking for fun places to see in Colorado with a lot of activities for you and your kids, this is your place.
The Royal Gorge is a canyon of the Arkansas River located west of Cañon City, Colorado. The canyon begins at the mouth of Grape Creek about 2 miles west of central Cañon City and continues in a west-northwesterly direction for approximately 6 miles until ending near U.S. Route 50.
This two hours drive from Denver is home of America’s Highest Suspension Bridge & Zip Line! With 360° of adrenaline-packed rides and breathtaking views of Colorado’s natural wonders, this place is all worth the visit when you come to Colorado.
The bridge crosses the gorge 955 feet (291 m) above the Arkansas River and held the record of the highest bridge in the world from 1929 until 2001 when it was surpassed by the Liuguanghe Bridge in China.
There are a lot of activities that you can do from ziplining to aerial gondolas to royal rush sky coaster and tons of other things that you'll find at www.royalgorgebridge.com. Some rides might be canceled if the weather doesn't permit it. Our last visit was so windy that the Cloudscaper zipline was suspended for an hour and we couldn't wait long as we had to go to catch the royal gorge rail ride.
Royal Gorge Railroad: Welcome aboard :)
This is America’s most spectacular rail journey aboard the Royal Gorge Route Railroad. This memorable train ride through the Colorado Rockies features gorgeous scenery, great service, and delicious food, sourced locally and prepared fresh right on board the train for breakfast, lunch, afternoon and dinner excursions.
This trip was planned for my birthday but was canceled due to the Covid-19. But we took it as soon as the state started to reopen. It is a slow train ride through the gorge, about two hours ride in total. Steep bluffs on both sides sometimes and the beautiful Arkansas “river” beside the track. Just a relaxing and fun ride that you do not want to miss if you visit this beautiful state.
The food aboard was so delicious but not everything that was listed on the menu was available, again I guess they didn't have everything due to the pandemic and the fact that they had just reopened. But the burger was super tasty.
The domes were clean, the crew was so friendly and professional. We enjoyed the opportunity to go outside in the open car. One thing you need to do is book your tickets earlier because respecting the social distancing you might not find the available dome or class you are looking for. We were lucky to take the Vista Dome Class and relish the most spectacular views of the breathtaking Royal Gorge and the mighty Arkansas River.
The whole experience was just unbelievable. The weather was beautiful, sunny, and warm. The month of May was a spectacular time to take the ride but I'd mind taking it in fall too. That would be gorgeous. The sounds come alive and the view of the train and the whistling sound was spectacular. Overall this was the best part of the day as we navigated the gorge. The look of amazement and the open deck was the best.
Do not miss this unforgettable experience, it's a well worth trip!
